Garden

This world is called ‘Garden’ because its story is played out, decadent and high, amid thorny snarls and tall hedges, performed by savage-hearted knaves and vaunted heroes. This is a world that means something. Even in the very beginning, when the universe coalesced from fundamental chaos, the greatest and most distant stars watched it come into being, seeking meaning where there had been none. The denizens of the Garden, as they have named their world, lived first by the Old Law of nature. Then, there were new gods, who brought with them a New Law. The world is fantastical– gunpowder has not yet displaced the bow, the spear, and the sword. Courtly romance and fairy tales both are spun by bards, with tales of divinely-ordained kings, noble heroes, and scheming wizards. In the Garden, it is these stories that matter– beyond any hard truth.
